A pet for Christmas? Definitely NOT a good idea.

Christmas is a time for love, care, and shared moments. Often, the desire to make the holiday unforgettable leads us to choose unusual gifts – and animals, unfortunately, often fall into this category. But no matter how appealing the idea of placing a puppy, kitten, or bunny under the tree may seem, let’s take a moment to think.

An animal is not an object

This is not something you don't know. But living beings require attention, love, and care. They are not toys that can be returned
if they do not meet our expectations. Animals have feelings, needs, and are dependent on the people around them.

A lifetime responsibility

When you choose to adopt an animal, you are making a commitment for years to come . This includes caring for food, medical expenses, training, and creating a safe and loving environment. An unprepared home for an animal often leads to heartbreaking consequences for the animal.

An impulsive gift can be a tragedy

Many puppies and kittens given away during the holidays are unwanted by January. They are abandoned on the streets or returned to shelters because the family wasn’t ready for the responsibility they carry.

What can you do instead?

  1. Support a cause. Instead of giving away an animal, make a donation to an animal protection organization.
  2. Choose a symbolic gift. A card or a toy related to animals can show your care and affection without a long-term commitment.
  3. Make the decision together. If the family is ready for a pet, make the choice carefully after the holidays, when everyone is prepared for the long-term commitment.

Let’s not forget: animals are part of the family, not a holiday gift. For them, Christmas is about love and home, not ribbons and wrapping paper.
